Seven year old Ty Perry is genuinely likeable. Not perfect, but plenty likeable, which makes him all the more real. The Life of Ty: Penguin Problems by Lauren Myracle is the first in the Life of Ty series, with the third book coming out this month (excited to get my hands on it). Ty lives in a bustling house with loving but busy parents, two older siblings, and “Teensy Baby Maggie.” An early chapter book, the story details Ty’s days at school, life at home, visit to his sick friend, smidge of jealousy over the new baby, and adventure to the aquarium which results in a smuggled penguin in the Perry home (a situation cleverly and kindly solved with the help of his older sisters). Ty has his ups and downs, but he is thoroughly relatable and utterly delicious.
